FOOTBALL PUNDITS PICK LIKELY RELEGATION TEAMS

The English Premier League is set to begin this weekend with the first round of games.

Jamie Redknapp joined Soccer Saturday pundits to pick out likely clubs to lose out in the race come May next year when the season ends. The Soccer Saturday pundits are Phil Thompson, Paul Merson, Charlie Nicholas, and Matt Le Tissier.

Phil Thompson opines that the three clubs that will likely lose the bets to remain in top flight football would be Hull City, AFC Bournemouth and Burnley FC. He said instead of picking Middlesbrough, he would select Bournemouth as the one to likely drop out as the season runs. His argument was supported with details that Alvaro Negredo still had to prove himself in the league, and that his deal with Boro would be a good one. He added that Gaston Ramirez and Viktor Fischer would be a great addition to the Boro team.

Charlie went with the three newly promoted teams. He said the teams have not made additions and they have a few critical issues to fix. He predicted a poor run for Sunderland, West Brom and even Crystal Palace. Paul Merson didn’t completely agree with Charlie as he concurred with Thompson on Boro doing enough to remain in the EPL, and added that he feels Bournemouth will take their place in the Sky English Championship in the next season.

Matt Le Tissier went on a different path, predicting doom for Watford along with Hull City and Burnley. Watford switch in manager he claimed might not produce the best results and the new entrants didn’t do anything special to warrant their retention of their new status by May. Jamie Redknapp agreed with Le Tissier regarding his choices. He attacked the fact that Burnley do not have good strikers and the reliance on Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo by Watford might not do too well this time.
